How to Write a Poem

Choose your words

Carefully, carefully

Hold those words inside your heart

Hold them in your hand

Whisper them to your paper

Like making a martini

Wave the bottle of vermouth over the glass

Hold a pen near your notebook

Tell your poem to the wind

And then

When the poem isn't looking

Snatch it out of the air

And gently, gently

Stuff it into your pages

You have a poem now

Take care of it!

It's so fragile
